We offer Primary and Secondary school based training  through School Direct & Core SCITT Programmes leading to recommendation for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the option for a Masters level PGCE (60 credits) for Unsalaried trainees.

Unsalaried School Direct Programmes

  • Full Time Secondary (students aged from 11 to 16 or 14 to 18)  See below for subjects.
  • Full Time Primary (pupils aged from 3 to 7 or 5 to 11)
  • Full Time Primary with Maths (pupils aged from 5 to 11)

**PE with EBacc Subject is a PE training programme whereby trainees will train as PE teachers with additional training in an EBacc subject (listed above).  Trainees will be assessed to meet the Teachers' Standards within PE only (and therefore recommended for QTS in PE only) but the additional training should boost employment following completion of the course. 


Applicants for this course must meet all our entry criteria for ITT plus have achieved a standard equivalent to a Grade C at A Level in an EBacc subject.


It should be noted that we also require our trainees on our regular PE training course to gain experience in an alternative subject throughout the training year.  Applicants wishing to train under the PE with EBacc Subject must apply under the regular PE course code.


Salaried School Direct Programmes

  • Full Time Salaried - Primary ITT and Secondary Computing, DT, English, Geography, Maths & Physics only
  • Researchers in Schools - Secondary English, Maths and Physics only
  • Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship - Primary teacher training only

Core SCITT Programmes

  • Full Time programmes in PE


There is no difference in the training you will receive on either the Core or School Direct programme.  Offering training places on the Core programme allows us to recruit more trainees to these popular subjects.


Assessment Only


This is a 12 week employment based route for achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) whilst working as a teacher. This is only open to experienced candidates currently employed as unqualified teachers.


Teach Independent


A two year Initial Teacher Training programme tailored to meet the needs of the Independent Sector, delivered and accredited by George Abbot SCITT in partnership with St John's School, Leatherhead.
