Fees and Financial Support


For 2019/20 our tuition fees are:


£8,300 for trainees on the QTS only route.

£9,250 for trainees who opt for the PGCE route 


Trainees on the Salaried Primary programme will receive a salary in line with the supporting school's policy.

Training Bursaries


Substantial tax-free bursaries of up to £26,000 are available for people with top degrees in certain subjects.  The amount of bursary you will be eligible for depends on the subject you want to teach and your degree class.   Below are the bursaries for trainees on an ITT programme from September 2019 to July 2020.  .


Please note that salaried trainees are not eligible for training bursaries.

Scholarships & Maths Early Career Payments


Graduates with a minimum 2:1 in Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages and Computing are eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to £28,000 from the appropriate professional body that are paid in lieu of the bursary above.  Trainees in Maths with a 2:1 are eligible to apply for a bursary of £22,000 that is paid in lieu of the bursary.  (Candidates with 2:2 will be considered where they hold significant relevant experience)


Qualified teachers of Mathematics who remain employed for five years in a maintained school following their training will receive two Early Career Payments of £5,000.  These are paid at the end of the third and fifth years following training.


Primary Phase Training Bursaries


Tax-free bursaries are available to trainees on the General Primary with Maths course only, to assist with living expenses during your training.  There is no General Primary bursary for 2019/20.


For trainees on the General Primary with Maths course, there is a tax-free bursary of £6,000 available for all trainees with a first class, 2:1 or 2:2 classification in their degree.
